It's National Organic Month!
The environment is a key issue for everyone, and it's constantly in the public eye. Businesses are being put under more and more pressure from the government to do better. But farming has been put under particular pressure. The growth of veganism can be attributed to this pressure too, as more research comes under public scrutiny, demonstrating the damage our farming behaviour has on the climate. So this month, why not make an effort to support going organic?
Organic September was set up by the Soil Association, who run a number of campaigns that challenge various agricultural and environmental issues, including the banning of pesticides and supporting agroforestry. If you want to find out ways to support this campaign and raise awareness, you can go to the Soil Association website. Or you can download the picture below and upload it straight to your social media and make sure to use the hashtags #OrganicSeptember and #rhinogreenhouse.
For most gardeners, September is the busiest time for harvesting. Summer isn't quite over yet but autumn is on the horizon, so all those lovely fruits and vegetables are still enjoying the long warm days. It's been a great year for aubergines and squashes - all of you have been posting pictures of beds exploding with those big umbrella like leaves, beneath which big juicy courgettes are maturing.
Some things will be coming to the end, but there's plenty still to go throughout the autumn:
- Strawberries (finishing soon)
- Runner Beans
- Spring Onions
Not to mention all the flowers that are still coming into bloom. Whether you're leaving them in the garden or bringing them into your home, the gorgeous colours are sure to bring a smile to your face. And save those beautiful seedheads too - for decoration or to add interest to your home or garden through the colder months.
September Flower Shows
September is still a busy month here at Rhino, with the last 4 shows of the year. Are you going to any flower shows this month? Maybe we'll see you there!
